Meet Our Owner Richard F. Dawahare

Richard has enjoyed a diverse career path. After graduating from the University of Kentucky College of Law in 1979, he spent 28 years as a retailer, working for Macy's and Dawahare's. Following Dawahare's closure in 2008, he began practicing law full-time, specializing in family and elder law, and advocating for children, veterans, the disabled, and others denied their rights, securing a major victory for foster children and their relative foster parents in D.O.V. Glisson. This mission he continues to pursue.

Experienced Attorney

Richard F. Dawahare, Esq. is an experienced attorney who regularly appears in Guardianship Court and serves as a Guardian ad Litem for children in Dependency, Neglect, and Abuse (DNA) Court. He also represents veterans in their disability appeals and volunteers his time for pro bono work with The Fayette County Bar Association and AppalReD (Appalachian Research and Defense).

Licensed Practitioner

Richard is licensed to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States, the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky.

He recently won a significant victory for children and their relative foster parents in a case that went to the United States Supreme Court, D.O. v. Glisson, 847 F.3d 374 (6th Cir. 2017) cert. denied 138 S.Ct. 316 (2017).
